My Guide to a Usable Internet
This is an informal information guide on how to make the internet more user friendly. Some of this will dictate what browsers you use and what extensions you use for that browser. It will also feature containment of social media platforms fishing for data on you from other platforms. Ignore where you feel this isn't required for you
- Download a Gecko based browser
This might sound bizarre but a lot of Chromium based browsers are designed to log personal information and ignore many of the tips and tricks I'm going to inform you of to make your internet experience slightly less shit. The most famous Gecko browser is Mozilla Firefox but GNU IceCat, Waterfox, K-Melon, Lunascape, Conkeror, Floorp, LibreWolf, Midori, SlimBrowser, Tor (this one can get to the Deep and Dark Web so...be careful with this one), Zen, Basilisk, Pale Moon and SeaMonkey. I am VERY boring in that I use Firefox. I've never tried these other browsers and as such, all listed, including Firefox, will have their pros and cons. If you WANT to risk it on these others or they have a quality Mozilla doesn't...fine. I'm not REALLY brand loyal to anything, it's just a case of adopting what works and ignoring what doesn't. I ignore Chromium browsers because they loved ignoring my requests ("I don't want to see ads!") and logging my info in a way Firefox just didn't.
- Get Decent Extensions
I'd like to point out that these are Firefox extensions and I'm unaware of their use for these other browsers. If they work or have a developed equal on your chosen browser's extensions page, great. If they have similar features built INTO the browser, even better. I will add a secondary list of these extensions. All have their uses from blocking ads to blocking cookies to containing websites to adding my personal choice for default web browser automatically (Ecosia) to even just basic "lets make Google Translate obsolete".
- Use less invasive internet
This is a general thing but a great way to make sure you're using the internet alright is to reduce social media time. Find other avenues that aren't "the big ones." Which ones do I suggest? I already did. "Why go to that trouble?" Again...
